Top Notch Wines at Curley’s
Local wine buffs will be delighted to know that the prestigious award winning wines from the Chateau de La Ligne are not only available in some of Belfast’s best known eateries such as Cayenne, Shu and Taps but also from the Kennedy Centre branch of Curleys Wine Cellars.
Customers were treated to a special sample event at the recent Taste Fest and the Merlot Cabernet Cuvee Prestige 2005 was very well received.
The ‘Wine Geese’ is the name given to the emigrant Irish families and their descendents, who from the eighteenth century onwards engaged in the wine trade of the various countries of their adoption.
Bordeaux, capital of the wine world, is the spiritual home of the Wine Geese. In the Bordeaux region there are fourteen chateaux, ten streets, two wine communes and one public monument, all bearing Irish names.
Local entrepreneur Terry Cross acquired the Chateau de La Ligne in 2000 and as a member of the Wine Geese fraternity is happy to share the proud legacy of the many families of Irish ancestry who for centuries have graced Bordeaux, the finest wine-growing region of the world.
From the moment you lift the bottle you actually get the ‘‘quality’’ feel you know you are holding a Grand Vin de Bordeaux!
At £12 a touch it’s not cheap but divide that by 6 and it works out £2 per glass, which really is exceptional value for money when it comes to top notch restaurant style wine. So how would you enjoy it at home? Leisurely, when wine is this good, savour it! Serve with a couple of good steaks followed by a nice piece of brie. But remember the golden rule, open the bottle at least half an hour before you pour it and remember room temperature should not be too warm. Enjoy!
